Phil Ivey – the ‘Tiger Woods of Poker’ is now the leader on the poker all-time money list with a massive $12,804,433. This is largely thanks to a fantastic 2009 on the live tournament circuit which saw him win two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, as well as final-tabling the prestigious Main Event.
Despite divorcing from his wife Luciaetta at the end of 2009, Ivey has continued his impressive form and started 2010 with a bang. Despite losing a heads-up battle at the Aussie Millions $100K Challenge, the second place result saw Ivey leapfrog Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu to become pokers biggest winner of all-time. This was a fantastic achievement for Phil Ivey and he celebrate d it with dinner and then a game of poker – I guess practice really does make perfect because Ivey plays poker everyday!
Daniel Negreanu will be somewhat unhappy about Ivey’s achievement however. The PokerStars Pro made a list of goals for 2010 and remaining number one on the all-time money list was one of them. He is now around $400k behind Ivey on the list and it will be a very tough task to regain the top spot unless he ups his live tournament schedule.
For Phil Ivey it is all about the achievement and honour. He has won many, many millions playing in cash games and some people have rumoured that he is worth over $50 million. Despite so much money he has upped his live tournament schedule in recent years in the hunt of WSOP bracelets and to set the bar for being the greatest poker player of all time, Phil Ivey is a true poker legend – and has many years left!
